Bloom South Conference Leaders for 2023
Amber Weldon Stephens
Music Therapist, Fulton County Schools, adjunct professor Kennesaw State University
Session 1
Bloom with Music
Enjoy the fun of music as we sing songs, move to the music and learn how to incorporate it into our sessions with kids. We’ll learn how to enhance our daily schedules and help kids experience the joy and fun of music as we kick off our Bloom workshop.
Session 2
Music: The Sounds of Early Literacy
Music can open the door to a world of letters and sounds that will unite huge success with READING! Let me help you build a classroom where music is a part of your daily routine connecting fun to knowledge.
Session 3
Music Ties it All Together
Whatever the gap whether academic, social, motor or communication; music can help all our kids connect the dots. You don’t have to be musical to use music as a tool for teaching. Come and learn how to make a “joyful noise” as you bridge all the skills under a musical umbrella!
Classroom Management: Rules vs. Relationships
Every behavior is motivated by an underlying need, whether it be the need for comfort, control, attention, safety, affirmation, importance, or something else entirely. Become a feelings detective by learning how to identify the feeling underneath some of the most commonly frustrating behaviors and learn how to utilize the F.A.T. triangle to help address not just the behavior but the underlying need as well.
Sessions 4 and 5
Pigeon Poop
– How little ones can solve real world problems through STEM
This conference will help you explore the basic concept of STEM. We’ll learn fun and engaging ways to incorporate STEM activities into your preschool room as we solve real-world problems (pigeon poop).
Communication tools to use with kids, parents, teammates, or your boss
Kim will share strategies for establishing positive relationships with stakeholders and communicating sensitive information to people. Attendees will have the opportunity to role play and discuss scenarios.
Sessions 4 and 5
Self Care for those Brave Enough to Work with Preschoolers
Kim will share tips for balancing the many hats that those in preschool ministry wear. You will leave with tools for enriching your walk with God, your family time, your job, and most importantly, yourself.
Laying the Foundation: Building Phonological Awareness in your Classroom
Are you looking for ideas to make your phonological awareness block come alive in your classroom? This class will provide ideas on how to incorporate sound play in your classroom. You will walk away with an understanding of phonological awareness, how to teach it using song, poetry, and books. Participants will also have activities to use in their classroom the next day.
Sessions 4 and 5
Books, Books, Books and So Much More
Books are used throughout our day. During this session you will discover how to support language development and early literacy skills during large group literacy and circle time. Come discover how to foster a love for reading at an early age.
That Kid!
In this session we will learn how prenatal and early childhood experiences effect and influence the preschooler’s world. We will also explore practical tools the teacher can use to help them succeed in the classroom.
Sessions 4 and 5
Mirror Neurons: What your facial expressions are saying Session 4 and 5 to your Preschoolers
Did you realize your body language is sending a message? Learn how our facial expressions and body language affect the behaviors of children.
Directors, Lunch ‘n Learn
This training will provide directors with an in-depth look at the role of administrator as leader to preschool ministries. Our time will include an overview of health and safety, business practices, communication, family engagement, and developmentally appropriate care.
Session 4 and 5
Raising Worry Free Kids
For a variety of reasons, childhood anxiety rates are soaring, and children are exhibiting signs of anxiousness, worry and fear. In this session, Sissy will address common age specific issues and provide practical tools to help you understand why their brain is working against them and what to do when these situations arise.
This year we will be collecting supplies for kids in Georgia through Mission Georgia.
